A big THANK YOU from the BCZF team

Just a quick note from us here at the BCZF to say an enormous thank you for making this weekend’s  event such a success.

We dramatically increased the size of the fair this year, moving to a bigger venue, doubling the number of exhibitors and tripling the number of tables, and organising two satellite events to boot.

We think the gamble paid off. Attendance was great at all the events, the atmosphere amazing and warm and the people friendly. That it all went so well was thanks to everyone of you who came, browsed, bought, exhibited, volunteered, played music and helped spread the word.

We want to say a particularly big thanks to our volunteers who helped out and saved our bacon in so many ways: Ali, Ben, Graeme, Jo, Lucy, Marcel, Rhiannon, Ric, Ryan and Stacey, thank you!

We’re also grateful to pre-party venue the Crofter’s Rights and to Andrew Godfrey and OFF LIFE for helping programme the night. Thanks to the good folks at The Station for being so easy to work with and offering us such a fantastic venue and providing such great facilities, and to Roll for The Soul for hosting the after party. We are sorry for drinking all your beer. We’re indebted to the brilliant bands who played the after party, too: Brown Torpedo, The Perverts, EXPENSIVE, Jungfrau and Diving Bell – give them all  a listen!.

We’re equally forever grateful to Isabel Greenberg for designing all our promotional material and to Fat Flyers for doing such an amazing job printing all our posters and flyers. Check them out!

Finally, we’d love to hear from you! If you want to share your blog posts or stories, give us some feedback or otherwise get in touch, you can email us, send us a tweet with the #BCZF hashtag, or post in the comments section below.

Until next time…

All the best,

Esme, Hannah, Nick

 and Simon

WANT TO GET INVOLVED WITH OUR PRE-FAIR PARTY?

On Friday 4th October, Comic Book Slumber Party are organising an amazing pre-fair shindig at the Crofter’s Rights in Stokes Croft. There will be pizza, there will be beer, there will be drawing!

There’s also going to be some live comics reading and performance and we’re looking for people to get involved. Here’s the call for info from co-organiser Andrew Godfrey:

“Calling all comic creators! As part of this years Bristol Comics and Zine Fair I {Andrew Godfrey} will be hosting (alongside Comic Book Slumber Party and OFF LIFE magazine) a short comics and performance slot at the pre-party at The Crofters Rights on Friday the 4th. I am looking for about five performers (you can do it as a pair or group if you like) to perform a five minute comic or sections of comic/s leading up to 5 minutes. This will involve powerpoint although if you feel like being more creative let me know and we’ll see what can be done. Previous comic performances done in Dundee have involved musical instruments, singing, audience participation, costumes, and running around. For more information on what this event entails check out this article by the guy I stole the idea of stealing the idea off, Damon Herd.

If you think you’d be interested contact me at sickerthanthou@hotmail.co.uk outlining your idea (specifically your technical requirements) and some images from your comic. Also feel free to pass this on to anyone you think might be interested.

BCZF exhibitors announced!

We are pleased to announce the full list of exhibitors for BCZF 2013. We have over 40 incredible artists, writers and makers exhibiting and selling their work at the fair.

From published cartoonists to zinesters and from print makers to illustrators, from Bolton to Brighton, Exeter to Edinburgh, BCZF has it all. There’s a big Bristol contingent, including the Sicker Than Thou collaborators Emma Mould and Andrew Godfrey, plus Paula Knight, Paul Ashley Brown, Graham Johnson and many more. We’ll have established British artists such as the DECADENCE collective, Lizz Lunney, Jack Teagle, Donya Todd, David Ziggy Green and Philippa Rice selling their work, not to mention Issy Greenberg, the cartoonist and illustrator responsible for BCZF’s awesome promotional artwork.

As well as a host of debuting comics and zines, we’ll be the first convention where you can buy artist Katie Green’s new graphic memoir, Lighter Than My Shadow. Published by Jonathan Cape, LTMS is a deeply moving 500+ page chronicle of eating disorders, abuse and recovery. Gareth Brookes’ new book ‘The Black Project’, a Graphic Novel created entirely in the mediums of embroidery and linocut relief print, will also receive its convention debut at BCZF.

There’s also a great range of work being offered by collectives of artists from Bristol, Falmouth, Brighton and Gloucestershire. They’ll all be bringing a diverse range of publications, prints and handmade items. Exeter zine and art shop extraordinaire No Guts No Glory will be in attendance, too, adding to a wonderfully diverse roster of creative people.

Finally, as if that’s not enough, Comic Book Slumber Party will also be curating an entire room of workshops, comics and general awesomeness.

You can read about all of our exhibitors on this page. Keep an eye out, too, as we add more information about our amazing artists – and don’t forget: spread the word!
